Burlington, NC - Police have been on scene of a shooting on Arden Street Two people are confirmed deceased.

At 2207 hrs May 24, 2008, the Burlington Police responded to reports of gunshots in the 600 block of Arden St. Once on scene officers located the bodies of two shooting victims. Early indications are that this was the scene of a murder/suicide, however the investigation is continuing.  The names of the victims have not been released pending notification of family members. This continues to be an active investigation and anyone having any information is asked to contact the Burlington Police Department 229-3500 or Crime Stoppers 229-7100.

 

UPDATE: 

May 24, 2006 1600 hrs

Burlington Police continue to investigate the death of two people from last nights reported shooting at 638 Arden St., Burlington. The victim was identified as:

Dorothy Shiner Phillips, B/F/49. She was employed as a nurse at Duke University and Durham Regional Medical Center.

The suspect has been identified as:

Leonard Woodies, B/M/45.

Phillips and Woodies resided at 638 Arden St. but were not married. This is classified as a domestic related investigation.

The investigation indicates that Woodies shot Phillips with a single barrel shotgun while she was on the porch of her residence. Phillips died a short time after Woodies killed himself with a self-inflicted gunshot.

There was not a significant call history reported at the residence. Involvement at the residence was limited to complaints of loud music from within the home. (Seven calls for service since August of 2007).  There were no domestic related calls for service.

Investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information may contact BPD at 229-3500.
