Alamance County -  Sheriffs Deputies are searching for a suspect who sexually assaulted someone at Cedar Rock Park on Wednesday Feb, 6th 2008 around 2 pm. Hear the BOLO Listen Now!

On 2/6/02 at 14:12 hours deputies and EMS were dispatched to Cedar Rock Park on HWY 49 south in reference to a female being assaulted. Upon arrival officers contacted a W/F who displayed obvious signs of injuries. The victim reported that she had arrived at the park around 13:30 hours in order to run on the established park trails. Shortly after starting her route, the victim was confronted by a W/M near a heavily wooded area. The suspect attacked the victim, forcing her bodily off the trails deeper into the surrounding wooded area. At that point the victim was partially bound by the suspect and apparently strangled into unconsciousness. A short time later the victim regained consciousness, and fled to the parking lot area where she located park employees and reported the attack. She was subsequently transported to Alamance Regional Medical Center where she was treated for injuries.

The suspect was described as a W/M, late 30's to early 40's, standing 5'11" to 6'1" in height and weighing approximately 180 LBS. He has sandy colored hair and light mustache with some gray. He has light colored eyes and was noted as having an obvious tan. He was wearing a Grey sweatshirt, blue jeans and a faded green ball cap with some type of gold lettering. His voice was described as sounding "local" in accent. At the time of the attack the suspect was carrying a commercially cut wooden stick, described as a (possibly) square cut stake of light colored wood.

A suspect matching this exact description was observed by park personnel exiting the trails shortly before the victim made the report. This subject did not respond when he was (casually) spoken too, and was observed getting into a late model Ford F-150 extended cab pickup truck, described as being darker in color. 

Investigators are also attempting to locate several potential witnesses who may have observed the suspect either prior to or immediately after the attack. The victim recalls passing a W/M approximately 60 yrs of age carrying a small dog shortly before being attacked. In addition a white van, a silver "sporty"type car and an unknown 4dr vehicle where in the parking lot of the park when the victim arrived. In addition, a gold colored Ford Ranger Truck was seen departing the lot just prior to the suspect exiting the trails. Two composites of potential witnesses or persons of interest have been developed from witnesses at the scene. Anyone who was in the immediate area between 13:00 and 15:00 hours or is aware of anyone who may have been in the area is asked to contact Alamance County Sheriffs Office, Criminal Investigations Division.
