Snow Camp, NC - Snow Camp Fire Department received a call that a vehicle was over-turned on Bass Mountain Road. Units arrived on scene to find a female who pulled herself out of the over-turned vehicle. She appeared to only have minor cuts, and was shakin up a bit.

Central Communications of Alamance County notified all personnel that water was standing on Bass Mountain Road.

There was a heavy downpour of rain that just went through this section of the county. 

North Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the accident.

July 4th Holiday Traffic Crackdown Print

Raleigh, NC -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol wants to make sure drivers arrive at Independence Day celebrations alive. So troops are planning to beef up their patrols on major highways.

State Troopers will be cracking down on speeders and aggressive drivers during the holiday as well as increasing patrols on all interstates and major four lane highways during the holiday.
 
Last year in North Carolina, six people died and 302 were injured in 438 collisions during the July 4th holiday period. 


Along with looking for aggressive driving behavior like speeding and erratic lane changes, troops also plan to increase enforcement of the "following too close" law.

A "following too close" conviction can result in a $145 fine and four driving points.

Troopers will be operating LIDAR on some of the state's deadliest highways during the holiday week. Below is a list of the counties and the identified roadways.
· Troop A- US 264 in Pitt County, US 70 in Carteret and Lenoir Counties, US 64 in Washington and Tyrell Counties.
· Troop B- I-95 in Cumberland County and I-40 in Duplin, New Hanover and Sampson Counties.
· Troop C- I-95 in Nash and Johnston Counties, US 401 in Wake County, US 64 in Wake County, I-40 in Johnston County, I-85 in Vance County, and US 1 in Franklin County.
· Troop D- I-85 in Guilford and Alamance Counties, and US 220 Randolph County.
· Troop E- I-74 in Forsyth County and I-85 in Davidson County.
· Troop F- I-40 in Burke, Catawba, and Iredell Counties and I-77 in Iredell County.
· Troop G- US 74 in Rutherford County, I-26 in Henderson County, I-40 in Buncombe County, and US 441 in Macon County.
· Troop H- I-85 in Gaston, Cleveland and Mecklenburg Counties, and US 601 in Union County.

ON 6-21-07 OFFICERS RESPONDED TO 770 SHARPE ROAD IN REFERENCE TO A REPORT OF TWO CHILDREN BEING SEXUALLY MOLESTED.  THE CHILDREN, AGES SIX AND SEVEN, WERE EXAMINED AT NORTH CAROLINA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN CHAPEL HILL.  THE OFFENSES AGAINST THE CHILDREN OCCURRED ON JUNE 18TH AND 19TH.

JUAN ANTHONY ACOSTA JR., B/M, 11-28-87, WAS ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH FOUR COUNTS OF STATUTORY RAPE.  HE WAS LIVING AT THE RESIDENCE OF 770 SHARPE ROAD AT THE TIME OF THE REPORT.  HE PREVIOUSLY LIVED AT 1631 E. PLAZA, WILMINGTON, N.C.  A REFERRAL TO THE WILMINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN MADE AS TO POSSIBLE OFFENSES THAT MAY HAVE OCCURRED IN THEIR JURISDICTION.

ACOSTA IS CURRENTLYBEING HELD AT THE ALAMANCE COUNTY JAIL IN LIEU OF $400,000.00 BOND.

A-O firefighter Danny Leath Print

Ossipee, NC -- Family and friends said good-bye to a local firefighter at a special service Monday afternoon.

Danny Leath died Friday while driving back from the beach in Chatham County. Another car hit his head-on.

Leath joined the Altamahaw-Ossipee Fire Department in the 1980s. He later left, but then re-joined a few months ago.

His son joined the department after graduating from high school.
Justin worked alongside his father for just a couple weeks.

Danny Leath's funeral is Monday at
2 p.m. It's at Bethlehem
Christian Church in Altamahaw. His fellow firefighters will sit together at the service

Robbery w/Dangerous Weapon Print

Burlington, NC - On Thursday, June 21, 2007, at 0526 hrs the Burlington Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at the E-Z Stop convenience store located at 2753 Alamance Rd. Burlington NC. Employees described the suspect as a W/M, 5’8”, about 160 lbs, wearing a black cowboy hat, dark blue shirt, jeans and a black belt. The suspect also had some short growth facial hair and a mustache.  The suspect produced a small dark color handgun, possibly a revolver. He then demanded money. The suspect then left on foot after obtaining an undetermined amount of currency.

 

A Burlington Police Department K-9 was utilized in an attempt to locate the suspect. The K-9 track ended at a nearby location where officers found fresh tire tracks in the grass.  It is believed that the suspect may have been operating a white Ford Truck extended cab.  There were no injuries during this robbery. And the investigation is continuing.
