<title>New Unity XG-100 Provides Direct Interoperability Across Multiple Frequency Bands</title>
			<link>http://www.alamancelivescanner.com/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=384&amp;Itemid=3</link>
<description> Harris Corporation Announces Breakthrough Multiband Software-Defined Radio for Federal, State and Local Public Safety ROCHESTER, NY, &amp;mdash; Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, today announced the introduction of Unity&amp;trade;, a family of multiband software-defined radios that will allow federal, state and local public safety agencies to communicate more effectively using a single radio. The first product is the Unity XG-100, a multiband portable land mobile radio. The Unity XG-100 provides secure interoperable communications over public safety frequency bands from 136 to 870 MHz. This will enable emergency personnel to communicate directly without having to carry multiple radios or route transmissions through ad-hoc network bridges. The new radio will be fully compliant with the APCO Project 25 technical standard in both conventional and trunking modes and is approximately the same size as currently fielded single-banded radios. Harris will be showing the Unity XG-100 for the first time next week at the 74th annual APCO Trade Show and Exposition in Kansas City. The Unity XG-100 is an advanced multiband radio that will provide public safety personnel with direct communications interoperability whenever and wherever necessary, said Dana Mehnert, president, Harris RF Communications. As a result, federal, state and local first responders will be able to unify their efforts and provide a better, more coordinated response to emergencies. The Unity XG-100 is based on our heritage as the leading provider of high-performance software-defined tactical radios for military use. Harris first introduced multiband radios to the U.S. Department of Defense more than a decade ago. We have gained a superior understanding of this field over that time and are now on our third generation of radios. Harris intends to use this expertise to create products that address the increasingly complex communication needs of government and public safety personnel. Harris entered the growing public safety/homeland security market in February with the RF-1033M, the first multiband radio targeting the needs of federal first responders. The Unity XG-100 expands on the capabilities of the RF-1033M and extends the frequency range to cover the 700/800 MHz bands. The multiband capability of the radio will allow public safety agencies to phase-in their transitions to new networks, including the newly available 700 MHz frequency band. The Unity XG-100 is also easily upgradeable via software updates to support evolving P25 standards, future capabilities and changing mission requirements. The Unity XG-100 will start field trials near the end of this year, with products expected to begin shipping in 2009. Improving communications interoperability remains a critical priority for public safety and government agencies across the country, and represents a major focus for Congress, the National Governor&amp;#39;s Association, the U.S. Conference of Mayors and other public policy makers. Expanding into adjacent markets is one of Harris Corporation&amp;#39;s core strategies. The company continues to invest in new product development and apply its extensive experience with defense, government, broadcast and other customers throughout the world to broaden its market opportunities. <link>http://www.alamancelivescanner.com/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=381&amp;Itemid=3</link>
<description> On August 7, 2008 between the hours of 8:00PM and 9:30 PM a total of 9 B E of Motor Vehicles were reported to Burlington Police, most occurring at Alamance Crossing. &amp;Oslash; Five vehicles were entered while parked at Carousel Cinemas. &amp;Oslash; Three were entered while parked at Olive Garden &amp;Oslash; One was entered while parked at Cracker Barrel (Huffman Mill Rd) The method of entry in all of these cases was by compromising the driver&amp;rsquo;s door lock and entering the driver&amp;rsquo;s door. Once entry was made in the vehicle, suspects took pocketbooks, GPS Systems, and in one case a dashboard TV and speakers. In the Cracker Barrel case, a B/M operating a White Dodge Charger was observed and may be a suspect. It appears as though the suspects were targeting vehicle electronics and cash and credit cards. One credit card that was stolen was used in Kernersville. Motorists are urged to take easily seen items, such as GPS systems out of the vehicle if it is going to be left unattended. And even though the system may be out of plain view, some vehicles have been targeted because the distinctive mark that is left on the windshield from a GPS mounting bracket, indicating that the vehicle may have an aftermarket GPS system in it. Pocketbooks should be locked in the trunk. UPDATE A Second description of a White Dodge Charger occupied by a B/M was given and sent out to neighboring law enforcement agencies within fifty miles. Deputies from Davidson County identified a White Dodge Charger and made a vehicle stop on I-85. As a result of the vehicle stop, items stolen from B E MV&amp;rsquo;s from Burlington were located. Burlington Police sent a team of officers to Davidson County to interview the suspects and begin to compile a list of recovered items. The following is a list of the occupants and their charges. Additional charges will likely be added after preliminary reports, statements, and property is analyzed: Otis Reddung Howie, B/M/23, of 1087 Griers Groves Rd., Charlotte, NC &amp;Oslash; B E MV &amp;Oslash; Possession of Burglary Tools Anuneakas Arsintchez Barnette, B/M/27, of 1709 Brooksdale St., Charlotte, NC &amp;Oslash; B E MV &amp;Oslash; Larceny &amp;Oslash; Fugitive from Justice Quanregious Damont Jetton, B/M/28, of 3854 Bullard St., Charlotte, NC &amp;Oslash; B E MV All are being detained in the Davidson County Jail. <title>U.S. Marshal-Led Efforts Result in Dozens of Local Arrests</title>
			<link>http://www.alamancelivescanner.com/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=365&amp;Itemid=3</link>
<description> Greensboro, N.C. &amp;ndash; Following a four-year tradition of success in its national efforts, the U.S. Marshals Service locally conducted another successful Operation FALCON (Federal and Local Cops Organized Nationally) from June 15-21. Led by the U.S. Marshal, Operation FALCON 2008 netted 118 arrests within the Middle District of N.C. Operation FALCON &amp;ndash; M/NC combined the collective efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies in one of the area&amp;rsquo;s largest-ever fugitive initiatives, focusing on capturing individuals wanted on felony charges including sexual predators and fugitives wanted for crimes of violence. Over the course of the seven-day operation, Deputy U.S. Marshals, teamed with other federal, state, and local law enforcement partners, arrested 118 fugitives, including one homicide suspect, eight sex offenders, and cleared 253 warrants in M/NC. Jonathan Newell, the homicide suspect, was wanted by the Greensboro Police Department for the alleged murder of Regan Bailey whose body was found in her home on Jan. 14. A team of Deputy U.S. Marshals and Greensboro Police officers arrested Newell June 17 on Lovette Street in Greensboro. &amp;ldquo; From the outset, Operation FALCON has proven how much can be accomplished when we combine resources at the federal, state and local levels,&amp;rdquo; said John F. Clark, Director of the U.S. Marshals Service. &amp;ldquo; This operation is not possible without the unique talents and dedication that each participating agency brings to the table.&amp;rdquo; Operation FALCON &amp;ndash; M/NC consisted of approximately 170 federal, state, and local law enforcement officers, making up five separate arrest teams working throughout the seven-day period. Each participating local officer was sworn in as a Special Deputy U.S. Marshal immediately prior to the start of this operation. This special authority empowered them to cross traditional lines of jurisdiction to track down and arrest targeted fugitives throughout the week. &amp;ldquo; The cooperation and enthusiasm of law enforcement agencies in the Middle District of North Carolina has always been phenomenal,&amp;rdquo; said U.S. Marshal Harlon Costner. &amp;ldquo; We are facing new challenges in Law Enforcement and must always adapt to overcome sometimes overwhelming odds when faced with the criminal element that places our communities in danger. This effort utilized the many resources of our federal, state and local partners, and I believe we have demonstrated that law enforcement at all levels is dedicated to a safer community locally and throughout the nation. The tremendous success of this operation was achieved only through this level of multi-jurisdictional cooperation.&amp;rdquo; Agencies contributing to Operation FALCON-M/NC were the NC State Highway Patrol, Forsyth County Sheriff&amp;rsquo;s Office, Guilford County Sheriff&amp;rsquo;s Office, Alamance County Sheriff&amp;rsquo;s Office, Durham County Sheriff&amp;rsquo;s Office, Davidson County Sheriff&amp;rsquo;s Office, Durham Police Department, Greensboro Police Department, Lexington Police Department, Winston-Salem Police Department, NC Probation and Parole, US Immigration/Customs Enforcement. Since its inception in 2005, Operation FALCON has made over 36,500 arrests and cleared over 45,300 warrants. It continues to be the largest and most successful fugitive apprehension effort in U.S. Marshals history.
